I Believe in Harvey Dent Too

Discovery

May 19, 2007

Shortly after Ibelieveinharveydent.com came online, a comic book store employee in Southern California reported that Joker cards were found in the shop, with "I believe in Harvey Dent too! Hahahaha!" rubber stamped all over them.

This led to the discovery of Ibelieveinharveydenttoo.com. The webpage displayed the Harvey Dent poster from Ibelieveinharveydent.com, but altered Dent's face to include red lipstick and blacked-out eyes like the Joker. At the bottom of the page was an email submission form.

Participation

By submitting their email address, participants received an email from tragicpast@ibelieveinharveydenttoo.com:

By entering in the X and Y coordinates at the URL written at the end of the message, a pixel could be deleted to reveal a new pixel underneath.

Sending a reply to tragicpast would result in another message received:

This could possibly be a reference to "Rory's First Kiss," a code name commonly known amongst the participants for some large production. Another reference to a "kiss" would later be found in Rorysdeathkiss.com.

Result

After enough emails were registered and all coordinates were entered, the second picture was revealed to be the first official photograph of the Joker.

Aftermath

May 21, 2007

Shortly after the picture was revealed, the page was removed and replaced with the text "Page not found."

However, highlighting the entire page showed hidden text: "ha ha ha" repeated hundreds of times along with various stray letters.

Rearranging these letters revealed a message from the Joker:

This would later prove to be more than an idle threat: one of the prizes for completing a later exercise were tickets to a showing of the Joker's bank robbery propaganda film, allowing the audience to "see" the Joker in December.
